Apart from Al Gore<\/a>, NASA\u2019s Dr James Hansen<\/a>, and the soon-to-be-much-missed head of the IPCC Dr Rajendra Pachauri, no one on earth has been a more voluble and extravagantly hysterical harbinger of Man-Made Eco Doom than Lord Stern of Brentford. (hat tip: Climategate.com<\/a> and others)<\/p>\n

The former Sir Nicholas Stern, you\u2019ll remember, is the funny little World Banker with the accountant\u2019s voice responsible for the 2006 Stern Review. This was the 712-page document, taken very seriously by world leaders, which claimed that Climate Change<\/a> would be so damaging to the world\u2019s economies it could reduce global GDP by as much as 20 per cent, certainly by at least 5 per cent \u201ceach year, now and forever.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n

Melting glaciers would cause water shortages for one sixth of the world\u2019s population.<\/p>\n

Wildlife would be so devastated that up to 40 per cent of the world\u2019s species might become extinct.<\/p>\n

Up to 200 million people could become refugees as their homes were hit by drought.<\/p>\n

By 2200 the annual cost of dealing with extreme weather events caused by \u201cclimate change<\/a>\u201d would be $23 trillion.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Since writing the report, Lord Stern has by no means seen fit to tone down his Cassandra-like screechings.<\/p>\n
