Plans by Labour to introduce a \u2018broadband tax\u2019 will affect three million households who have no intention of using the internet<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The tax unveiled last year by Alistair Darling, the Chancellor, is designed to raise \u00a3175 million to fund super-fast broadband across the country.<\/p>\n

Every house in Britain with a fixed-line phone \u2013 an estimated 23 million homes \u2013 will be charged an extra six pounds per year on their tax bill to pay for the plans.<\/p>\n

But the Conservative Party said the tax will force more than 3.2 million households, including pensioners, to pay for a service they do not use and have no interest in signing up for.<\/p>\n
