She’s played a princess, a dowdy journalist turned Vogue fashionista, and a secret agent. She’s been nominated for an Academy Award, a Golden Globe, and a Screen Actors Guild Award, but today (Jan. 28) Brooklyn-born actress Anne Hathaway won acclaim of another caliber: the Hasty Pudding<\/a>’s highest honor, and with it a Pudding Pot.<\/p>\n

But all good things must wait, and before Woman of the Year Hathaway, 27, could gain her prize, she took a stroll through a brisk Harvard Yard on a tour led by Lucy Baird \u201910. Looking ravishing in a patriotic crimson coat, Hathaway remained spirited even as snow began to fall, and she was without a hat.<\/p>\n

Arriving at the John Harvard Statue, \u201cThe Devil Wears Prada\u201d actress playfully greeted it with: \u201cHi, dude.\u201d<\/p>\n

Awed by Widener Library\u2019s grandiosity, Hathaway sought a more in-depth look, charging the towering stairs and taking a peek around inside.<\/p>\n

Later that afternoon, the actress, fresh from a snowy parade of Harvard Square with the Hasty crew, donned sequins and serious heels for her roast inside the New College Theatre, where she endured the incessant teasing of hosts Clifford Murray \u201910 and Derek Mueller \u201910.<\/p>\n

Poking fun at her turns in the film \u201cThe Princess Diaries\u201d and its sequel, \u201cThe Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement,\u201d Murray and Mueller called her \u201cthe second most famous Anne to keep a diary.\u201d Hathaway never once lost composure, however, coolly shooting back, \u201cLove that Anne Frank line.\u201d<\/p>\n

Not even \u201cPrincess Diaries\u201d co-star Julie Andrews could faze her. \u201cWhat are a few of your favorite things?\u201d sang an ersatz Andrews, played by Walter Klyce \u201910.<\/p>\n

\u201cA few of my favorite things, besides Harvard \u2026 \u201d Hathaway replied, before launching into song with, \u201cRaindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens \u2026\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYes, that would be the correct answer for me,\u201d Klyce shot back. \u201cBut I think you meant to say, \u2018Appearing topless in movies.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

The actress will soon appear as the White Queen in Tim Burton\u2019s rendition of \u201cAlice in Wonderland.\u201d She famously starred in \u201cBrokeback Mountain,\u201d \u201cBride Wars,\u201d \u201cGet Smart,\u201d and \u201cRachel Getting Married,\u201d which earned her the Oscar nomination. She\u2019s slated to star in \u201cGet Happy,\u201d a biography on Judy Garland, whom Hathaway resembles not only in looks \u2014 she can sing, too.<\/p>\n

Ordered to croon by an apparition of the one, the only, Liza Minnelli, 1973\u2019s Woman of the Year, Hathaway beautifully trilled about her skills to the tune of \u201cOver the Rainbow,\u201d a feat which finally persuaded Murray and Mueller to declare her worthy of the golden Pudding Pot.<\/p>\n

\u201cI get a little overeager and excited about things,\u201d explained Hathaway, who didn\u2019t trust herself enough to wing an acceptance speech.<\/p>\n

So she read a poem she\u2019d penned herself.<\/p>\n

\u201cI feel warm and gooey inside,\u201d read Hathaway, \u201cjoyous with my reddened backside, that your roast smacked upside. My rump is swollen with pride.\u201d<\/p>\n
