{"id":244479,"date":"2010-01-28T16:57:04","date_gmt":"2010-01-28T21:57:04","guid":{"rendered":"tag:typepad.com,2003:post-6a00d8341c60fd53ef012877221262970c"},"modified":"2010-01-28T16:57:04","modified_gmt":"2010-01-28T21:57:04","slug":"chicago-business-leaders-launch-illinoisisbroke-com-to-highlight-state-money-woes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mereja.media\/index\/244479","title":{"rendered":"Chicago business leaders launch &#8216;Illinoisisbroke.com&#8217; to highlight state money woes"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Posted by Michelle Manchir<\/em> at 3:55 p.m.<br \/><\/br><br \/><\/br>SPRINGFIELD &#8212; Chicago business leaders are launching a media blitz Friday to highlight the breadth of the state&#8217;s dire budget problems under the theme &quot;Illinois Is Broke.&quot;<br \/><\/br><br \/><\/br>The Civic Committee of the Commercial Club of Chicago says it&#8217;s pouring about $1 million into a campaign through the November general election to mobilize voters and influence candidates to address the state&#8217;s fiscal woes.<\/p>\n<p><\/br>The non-partisan committee wants the state to reform its method of paying for the massively underfunded state pension systems, including the enactment of a plan that would give lower benefits to new workers. <br \/><\/br><br \/><\/br>In addition, the group called for scaling back overall spending.
