Climategate scientists did indeed break the law to hide their sins from sceptics:<\/p>\n

Norwich\u2019s flagship university was at the centre of a new row today after it emerged it broke the law by refusing to hand over its raw data for public scrutiny <\/a>in the climate change row over stolen emails. <\/em><\/p>\n

The reputation of the University of East Anglia\u2019s world renowned climatic research unit (CRU)was shaken to the core last year after emails posted on the internet from researchers including its director Prof Phil Jones appeared to suggest ways of avoiding freedom of information requests together with a \u201ctrick\u201d to explain away an apparent fall in global temperatures\u2026 <\/em><\/p>\n

The Information Commissioner\u2019s Office (ICO) decided the UEA failed in its duties under the (freedom of information) act but said it could not prosecute those involved because the complaint was made too late…. <\/em><\/p>\n

The complaint to the ICO was made by David Holland, a retired engineer from Northampton. He had been seeking information to support his theory the unit broke the IPCC\u2019s rules to discredit sceptic scientists. <\/em><\/p>\n

In a statement, Graham Smith, Deputy Commissioner at the ICO, said: \u201cThe emails which are now public reveal that Mr Holland\u2019s requests under the Freedom of Information Act were not dealt with as they should have been under the legislation. Section 77 of the Act makes it an offence for public authorities to act so as to prevent intentionally the disclosure of requested information.\u201d <\/em><\/p>\n

He added: \u201cThe ICO is gathering evidence from this and other time-barred cases to support the case for a change in the law…\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

But some warming extremists are so unprincipled that they will forgive even the breaking of the laws that it is their particular duty to actually defend:<\/span><\/p>\n

The revelation comes in the week that Prince Charles visited the university pledging support for the university\u2019s work on climate change.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Is this meddling man fit to be king?<\/p>\n

To recall some of the leaked Climategate emails which most damn the CRU boss, Phil Jones<\/a>, and demand his sacking:<\/p>\n

Does your similar act in the US force you to respond to enquiries within 20 days? – our does ! The UK works on precedents, so the first request will test it.We also have a data protection act, which I will hide behind. Tom Wigley has sent me a worried email when he heard about it – thought people could ask him for his model code. He has retired officially from UEA so he can hide behind that. IPR should be relevant here, but I can see me getting into an argument with someone at UEA who\u2019ll say we must adhere to it !<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Jones had even been warned by his own university against deleting data subjected to an FOI request:<\/p>\n

Haven\u2019t got a reply from the FOI person here at UEA. So I\u2019m not entirely confident the numbers are correct. One way of checking would be to look on CA, but I\u2019m not doing that. I did get an email from the FOI person here early yesterday to tell me I shouldn\u2019t be deleting emails – unless this was \u2018normal\u2019 deleting to keep emails manageable!\u2026 <\/em><\/p>\n

Anyway requests have been of three types – observational data, paleo data and who made IPCC changes and why. Keith has got all the latter – and there have been at least 4. We made Susan aware of these – all came from David Holland. According to the FOI Commissioner\u2019s Office, IPCC is an international organization, so is above any national FOI. Even if UEA holds anything about IPCC, we are not obliged to pass it on, unless it has anything to do with our core business – and it doesn\u2019t! I\u2019m sounding like Sir Humphrey here! <\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Yet here\u2019s Jones\u2019 email to Michael \u201cHockey Stick\u201d Mann, asking him to join in the deleting of emails about the IPCC\u2019s controversial ARA report in 2007 <\/a>on man-made warming which Jones co-authored:<\/p>\n

I see that CA claim they discovered the 1945 problem in the Nature paper!! <\/em><\/p>\n
