{"id":245386,"date":"2010-01-28T21:11:07","date_gmt":"2010-01-29T02:11:07","guid":{"rendered":"tag:typepad.com,2003:post-6a00d8341c630a53ef01287723a177970c"},"modified":"2010-01-28T21:12:46","modified_gmt":"2010-01-29T02:12:46","slug":"former-dominguez-high-school-basketball-coach-is-sentenced-to-60-days-in-jail-for-child-molestation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mereja.media\/index\/245386","title":{"rendered":"Former Dominguez High School basketball coach is sentenced to 60 days in jail for child molestation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Veteran Compton high school coach Russell Otis today was sentenced to 60 days in county jail, placed on three years&#8217; probation and ordered to undergo a year of sex offender counseling. <\/p>\n<p>Otis, 47, was convicted last year of a misdemeanor charge of child molestation for subjecting a former player to a barrage of text messages that the player testified was sexual in nature.<\/p>\n<p>Otis also will have to register as a sex offender, which will bar him from teaching or coaching again.<\/p>\n<p>In the 20 seasons that he coached boys\u2019 basketball at Dominguez High School, he directed the Dons to five state championships and 10 CIF Southern Section titles.<\/p>\n<p>Otis\u2019 attorney, Leonard Levine, announced in court that he will appeal the conviction.<\/p>\n<p> Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Pat Connolly released Otis on bail pending appeal. <\/p>\n<p>\u2014Lance Pugmire <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Veteran Compton high school coach Russell Otis today was sentenced to 60 days in county jail, placed on three years&#8217; probation and ordered to undergo a year of sex offender counseling.
