{"id":248846,"date":"2010-01-29T17:44:24","date_gmt":"2010-01-29T22:44:24","guid":{"rendered":"tag:typepad.com,2003:post-6a00d8341c60fd53ef0120a82c9a4c970b"},"modified":"2010-01-29T17:44:24","modified_gmt":"2010-01-29T22:44:24","slug":"obama-notes-dillards-support-being-used-against-him-in-illinois-governors-race","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mereja.media\/index\/248846","title":{"rendered":"Obama notes Dillard&#8217;s support being used against him in Illinois governor&#8217;s race"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Posted by Rick Pearson<\/em> at 4:44 p.m.<br \/><\/br><\/p>\n<p>Democratic President Barack Obama today <a href=\"http:\/\/www.swamppolitics.com\/news\/politics\/blog\/2010\/01\/obama_washington_so_washington.html\">spoke to<\/a> U.S. House Republicans in Baltimore and took note of how bipartisanship can cause some sticky issues by citing the current Republican governor&#8217;s contest in Illinois.<\/p>\n<p>The issue came up as Obama fielded a question from U.S. Rep. Peter Roskam of Wheaton, a former Illinois Senate colleague of Obama. The president noted how he and Roskam \u201cdid work together effectively on a whole host of issues.\u201d\n<\/p>\n<p>Then Obama said to Roskam that \u201cone of our former colleagues is right now running for governor on the Republican side in Illinois\u201d &#8212; a reference to state Sen. Kirk Dillard of Hinsdale.<br \/><\/br><br \/><\/br>\u201cIn the Republican primary, of course, they\u2019re running ads of him saying nice things about me,\u201d Obama said. \u201cPoor guy.\u201d<br \/><\/br><br \/><\/br>The president was referring to TV attack ads being aired by former state Republican Chairman Andy McKenna of Chicago. McKenna cites Dillard\u2019s appearance in a 2007 TV ad on behalf of Obama\u2019s presidential candidacy during the Iowa caucuses. The McKenna ad asks if Dillard \u201cis really who he thought he was.\u201d<br \/><\/br><br \/><\/br>Dillard, a former DuPage County GOP chairman, has run into frequent criticism for the ads, which he said he did as a friend to speak to Obama\u2019s bipartisanship in the state legislature. But Dillard also was elected as a 2008 delegate for unsuccessful Republican presidential contender, Sen.
