It is one of those areas that the government (gasp!)\u00a0 leaves to parental discretion. The states that do have <strong>laws on the books <\/strong>are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Maryland, age 8<\/li>\n<li>Georgia, age 9<\/li>\n<li>Oregon, age 10<\/li>\n<li>Illinios, age 14<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>It is illegal in these states to leave your child if he is under the age specified. Of the other 46 states some have official guidelines. This means that the state is basically covering\u00a0 its butt when it comes to your kids. If you leave a child that is younger than the official guideline&#8230; AND if something happens then they can harass you for not following guidelines&#8230; if they want to. The states that have <strong>official guidelines<\/strong> are:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Age 8<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>South Carolina<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Age 9<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>North Dakota<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Age 10:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Tennessee<\/li>\n<li>Washington<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Age 11<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Nebraska<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Age 12<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Colorado<\/li>\n<li>Delaware<\/li>\n<li>Kansas<\/li>\n<li>Wisconsin<\/li>\n<li>Wyoming<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The rest of the states have nothing on the books one way or another. It is up to the total discretion of the parent.
