{"id":251651,"date":"2010-01-30T14:56:48","date_gmt":"2010-01-30T19:56:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.stoth.com\/2010\/01\/30\/intel-and-micron-start-25nm-flash-production-ssds-to-get-cheap-huge\/"},"modified":"2010-01-30T14:56:48","modified_gmt":"2010-01-30T19:56:48","slug":"intel-and-micron-start-25nm-flash-production-ssds-to-get-cheap-huge","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mereja.media\/index\/251651","title":{"rendered":"Intel and Micron start 25nm flash production; SSDs to get cheap, huge"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div><a href=\"http:\/\/www.anandtech.com\/storage\/showdoc.aspx?i=3731\"><img decoding=\"async\" hspace=\"4\" border=\"0\" vspace=\"4\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/www.blogcdn.com\/www.engadget.com\/media\/2010\/01\/01-30-10intelflash.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<p>Intel and Micron have a history of pushing the state-of-the-art in flash storage &#8212; their joint venture IMFT was responsible for the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.engadget.com\/2008\/05\/29\/intel-and-micron-produce-first-sub-40nm-nand-device\/\">first sub-40nm NAND flash<\/a> and bringing it <a href=\"http:\/\/www.engadget.com\/2008\/11\/24\/intel-micron-start-churning-out-34nm-32gb-nand-flash-chips\/\">to production<\/a> &#8212; and it looks they&#8217;ve done it again: IMFT is now sampling two-bits-per-cell 25nm NAND, which will eventually push prices down and capacities up when volume production begins in Q2. We&#8217;ll have to see how pricing works out &#8212; 25nm is something like twice the storage density per dollar, so we&#8217;re hopeful &#8212; but at the very least Intel&#8217;s third-gen X25-M will come in 160GB, 320GB, and 600GB sizes when it launches in Q4 using these new chips.
