{"id":255870,"date":"2010-01-31T14:30:58","date_gmt":"2010-01-31T19:30:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.ajc.com\/food-and-more\/?p=2279"},"modified":"2010-01-31T14:30:58","modified_gmt":"2010-01-31T19:30:58","slug":"the-grange-in-decatur-becomes-the-marlay","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mereja.media\/index\/255870","title":{"rendered":"The Grange in Decatur becomes The Marlay"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"attachment_2280\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\" style=\"width: 310px\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-2280 \" title=\"marlayjpeg\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.ajc.com\/food-and-more\/files\/2010\/01\/marlayjpeg-300x199.jpg\" alt=\"Courtesy of Marlay House\" width=\"300\" height=\"199\" \/><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Courtesy of the Marlay House<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Last October, the owners of\u00a0 the <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/entertainment.accessatlanta.com\/atlanta-ga\/venues\/show\/512421-the-grange-public-house-formerly-the-angel\">Grange Public House<\/a><\/strong> in Decatur received a letter from the National Grange, an agricultural advocacy group, challenging their rights to the name &#8220;Grange.&#8221; If they chose to, they could pay an annual fee for the naming rights.<\/p>\n<p>Instead the owners &#8212; siblings Colin, Darren and Jen Comer &#8212; decided to rename their popular Irish pub, opening the effort to the public in a &#8220;Rename the Grange&#8221; contest.<\/p>\n<p>On Saturday evening before a crowd of 350 people, the new name was revealed by Decatur mayor Bill Floyd. A sheet dropped to reveal a new sign reading &#8220;The Marlay.&#8221; The full name is the <a href=\"http:\/\/themarlayhouse.com\/\/\"><strong>Marlay House<\/strong>,<\/a> which refers to a famous 18th Century Georgian-style mansion on the outskirts of Dublin.
