{"id":264621,"date":"2010-02-02T10:54:18","date_gmt":"2010-02-02T15:54:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.campaignforliberty.com\/blog.php?view=32114"},"modified":"2010-02-02T10:54:18","modified_gmt":"2010-02-02T15:54:18","slug":"youve-got-that-bombing-feeling","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mereja.media\/index\/264621","title":{"rendered":"You&#8217;ve Got that Bombing Feeling"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>By Doug Bandow<\/p>\n<p>President Barack Obama isn&#8217;t doing too well in the polls.&nbsp; So Daniel Pipes offers some friendly advice:&nbsp; start another war!!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/article.nationalreview.com\/423580\/how-to-save-the-obama-presidency-bomb-iran\/daniel-pipes\">Argues Pipes<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Not only does a strong majority &#8211; 57, 52, 58, 61, and 61 percent in these five polls &#8211; already favor using force, but after a strike Americans will <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/stories\/2003\/03\/21\/opinion\/polls\/main545009.shtml\">presumably<\/a> rally around the flag, sending that number much higher.<\/p>\n<p>Fourth, if the U.S.limited its strike to taking out Iran&#8217;s nuclear facilities and did not attempt any regime change, it would require few &#8220;boots on the ground&#8221; and entail relatively few casualties, making an attack more politically palatable.<\/p>\n<p>Just as 9\/11 caused voters to forget George W. Bush&#8217;s meandering early months, a strike on Iranian facilities would dispatch Obama&#8217;s feckless first year down the memory hole and transform the domestic political scene. It would sideline <a href=\"http:\/\/article.nationalreview.com\/423580\/how-to-save-the-obama-presidency-bomb-iran\/daniel-pipes?page=2\" >health<\/a> care, prompt Republicans to work with Democrats, and make the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.netrootsnation.org\/about\">netroots<\/a> squeal, independents reconsider, and conservatives swoon.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Great idea.&nbsp; Delay rather than stop the Iranian nuclear program.&nbsp;&nbsp;Trigger retaliation in Iraq against U.S. troops and in the Gulf against Western shipping.&nbsp; Encourage proliferation by making clear around the world that only possession of nuclear weapons can protect you from U.S. bombing.&nbsp; Wreck Iran&#8217;s democracy movement.&nbsp; Reinforce hostility against America from even moderate Muslims who see continuing attacks on Islamic states and movements.&nbsp; And start another war&nbsp;likely to&nbsp;continue for years in one form or another.<\/p>\n<p>But heck.&nbsp; President&nbsp;Obama could look forward to a temporary rise in popularity.&nbsp; Starting another war even would make conservatives &#8220;swoon&#8221;!&nbsp;&nbsp;The latter should&nbsp;give any president that old&nbsp;&#8220;bombing feeling.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Maybe not, however.&nbsp; After the debacle in Iraq and growing mess in Afghanistan, one would hope that presidents and lawmakers have learned that it is easier to start wars than end them.&nbsp; And the conclusion rarely is the grand victory that the ivory tower warriors expect.<\/p>\n<p>Doug Bandow, American Conservative Defense Alliance<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Doug Bandow President Barack Obama isn&#8217;t doing too well in the polls.&nbsp; So Daniel Pipes offers some friendly advice:&nbsp; start another war!!
