According to the Chinese Renewable Energy Industries Assocation, renewable energy jobs in China now reach 1.12 million, up 100,000 per year.<\/p>\n<p>According to <em>The New York Times<\/em>, multinational corporations\u00a0are now\u00a0moving their clean energy product factories to China.\u00a0Denmark&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.vestas.com\/\" >Vestas<\/a> just\u00a0built the\u00a0&#8221;world\u2019s biggest wind turbine manufacturing complex here in northeastern China, and transferred the technology to build the latest electronic controls and generators.&#8221; The low-cost of Chinese labor is a primary driver: Vestas will pay its assembly line workers $4,100 per year.<\/p>\n<p>Currently, renewable energy accounts for four percent of total energy\u00a0in the U.S. and China. China is aiming\u00a0for 8 percent of its energy to be renewable by 2020. U.S. President Obama recently called for the U.S. to increase the share of renewable energy in total energy production, as well as\u00a0a\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/gwire\/2010\/01\/29\/29greenwire-obama-puts-government-on-low-carbon-diet-53501.html\" >28 percent reduction in government-generated CO2 emissions<\/a> by 2020, which is expected to\u00a0increase domestic demand for renewable energy. Government agencies will be asked to\u00a0put their enormous buying power\u00a0towards renewable energy.<\/p>\n<p>However, <a href=\"http:\/\/greeninc.blogs.nytimes.com\/2010\/01\/15\/fossil-fuel-use-2034-not-much-different\/?scp=3&amp;sq=us%20clean%20energy%20target&amp;st=cse\" >a recent estimate from Black &amp; Veatch, an engineering and energy consultancy<\/a>, argues that the U.S. energy mix will largely remain the same in the near future unless there are significant regulatory changes at the federal and state levels and new investments in a national smart grid. &#8220;The outlook for renewable energy is cloudy over all. Much depends on green energy targets set by the states \u2013 or possibly by the federal government \u2013 and resolving technological and infrastructure issues, including building transmission lines to carry wind and solar energy from remote locations to population centers.&#8221; In the new budget, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/cwire\/2010\/02\/01\/01climatewire-obamas-budget-pushes-clean-technologies-cuts-86818.html?scp=1&amp;sq=obama%20fossil%20fuel%20subsidies&amp;st=cse\" >Obama calls for an end to fossil fuel subsidies<\/a>, which cost $40 billion per year, new subsidies for renewable energy, as well as investments in the smart grid.<\/p>\n<p>As Thomas Friedman recently noted in an <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2010\/01\/10\/opinion\/10friedman.html?scp=1&amp;sq=thomas%20friedman%20china%20solar&amp;st=cse\" >op-ed<\/a>, in the future, the world may soon be importing its renewable energy products from China instead of oil from the Middle East unless local manufacturers become more competitive. Andrew Brandler, the C.E.O. of the CLP Group, Hong Kong\u2019s largest power utility, told Friedman:\u00a0&#8221;By the end of this decade, China will be dominating global production of the whole range of power equipment.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2010\/01\/31\/business\/energy-environment\/31renew.html?scp=1&amp;sq=china%20renewable%20energy&amp;st=cse\" >Read the article<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Also, check out the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nrel.gov\/eis\/imby\/\" >National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL)&#8217;s &#8220;In My Backyard (IMBY)&#8221;<\/a>, a new site appraisal\u00a0tool which enables homeowners and businesses to calculate the amout of renewable energy that can be produced\u00a0through\u00a0either\u00a0a\u00a0solar photovoltaic (PV) array or wind turbine\u00a0on any given site. According to NREL, &#8220;IMBY uses a map-based interface to allow you to choose the exact location of your PV array or wind turbine.
