\"\"John Fahy handily won the GOP nomination for another term on the Kane County Board’s 21st District.<\/p>\n

According to unofficial totals with all 10 precincts reporting, Fahy had 56 percent of the vote in the Republican primary, with 548 votes, while challenger Lee Barrett, a former board member, had 367 votes.<\/p>\n

Fahy, 48, of West Dundee, said his work making Randall Road and Route 72 a safer intersection with turning lanes gave him an edge over the competition. <\/span><\/p>\n

“I think that Mr. Barrett was the county board member for eight years, and in my years, we’ve moved forward and the voters wanted to continue to move forward instead of moving backward.”<\/p>\n

Fahy will now face Democrat Joseph Haimann in the November general election.<\/p>\n

Barrett, 72, of East Dundee, held the office for two terms before losing to Fahy four years ago.<\/p>\n

The candidates shared similar views on issues such as business development, but they took different approaches on video gambling.<\/p>\n

Barrett said gambling is a moral issue that does not create jobs or support a community.<\/p>\n

But while Fahy said he does not support video gambling, he does support the $31 billion capital improvement plan the state seeks to partially fund with revenue from the machines.<\/p>\n

The 21st District covers parts of Carpentersville, East Dundee and West Dundee.<\/p>\n
