{"id":270373,"date":"2010-02-03T09:18:15","date_gmt":"2010-02-03T14:18:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.utk.edu\/tntoday\/?p=18572"},"modified":"2010-02-03T09:18:15","modified_gmt":"2010-02-03T14:18:15","slug":"and-the-beat-goes-on-all-sing-tradition-continues-at-ut-knoxville","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mereja.media\/index\/270373","title":{"rendered":"And the Beat Goes On: All-Sing Tradition Continues at UT Knoxville"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.utk.edu\/tntoday\/wp-content\/uploads\/All-Sing-20101.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-18580\" title=\"All-Sing 2010\" src=\"http:\/\/www.utk.edu\/tntoday\/wp-content\/uploads\/All-Sing-20101.jpg\" alt=\"All-Sing 2010\" width=\"280\" height=\"420\" \/><\/a>KNOXVILLE &#8212; Students will get the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, jumping this week with this year&#8217;s All-Sing competition, a campus tradition of more than 75 years.<\/p>\n<p>The 2010 All-Sing will be held at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 4, and 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 5, in Cox Auditorium in the Alumni Memorial Building.<\/p>\n<p>This year&#8217;s theme is &#8220;Tik-Tok on the Clock\u2026All-Sing Never Stops.&#8221; The competition includes 21 student organizations performing songs from &#8220;Annie Get Your Gun,&#8221; &#8220;Aladdin,&#8221; &#8220;Legally Blonde,&#8221; &#8220;Cats,&#8221; &#8220;Les Mis\u00e9rables&#8221; and hits from The Beatles and Motown.<\/p>\n<p>Divisional and overall awards will be given as well as awards for best female and male soloists.<\/p>\n<p>The competition debuted in 1932 as &#8220;Song-Fest&#8221; and has been a campus institution ever since. Song-Fest began as an initiative by the Young Men&#8217;s Christian Association and the All Students&#8217; Club as a singing competition to familiarize students, faculty and the community with songs of the times.<\/p>\n<p>Tickets for Thursday night are $5 for UT students, $8 for UT faculty and staff and $10 for the general public. Tickets for Friday night are $10 for UT students, $13 for UT faculty and staff and $15 for the general public. Tickets may be purchased in the Central Ticket Office at (865) 974-3381 or through Tickets Unlimited at (865) 656-4444 or <a href=\"http:\/\/www.knoxvilletickets.com\">http:\/\/www.knoxvilletickets.com<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The All-Sing competition is presented by All Campus Events (ACE). ACE is a component of the Central Program Council, which represents seven committees under the Office of Student Activities. The goal of this student-driven organization is to plan campus events that have become longstanding UT traditions. Each year ACE organizes Volunteer Challenge, Homecoming, All-Sing and Carnicus.
