{"id":275783,"date":"2010-02-04T09:55:26","date_gmt":"2010-02-04T14:55:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/greenenergyreporter.com\/?p=6062"},"modified":"2010-02-04T09:55:26","modified_gmt":"2010-02-04T14:55:26","slug":"bp%e2%80%99s-tony-hayward-still-bullish-on-renewables-despite-evidence-to-the-contrary","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mereja.media\/index\/275783","title":{"rendered":"BP\u2019s Tony Hayward Still Bullish on Renewables, Despite Evidence to the Contrary"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.greenenergyreporter.com\/wp-content\/themes\/v1\/img\/cat\/biofuel.png\" width=\"8\" height=\"8\" alt=\"\" title=\"Biofuel\" \/><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.greenenergyreporter.com\/wp-content\/themes\/v1\/img\/cat\/funding.png\" width=\"8\" height=\"8\" alt=\"\" title=\"Funding\" \/><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.greenenergyreporter.com\/wp-content\/themes\/v1\/img\/cat\/solar.png\" width=\"8\" height=\"8\" alt=\"\" title=\"Solar\" \/><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/greenenergyreporter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/06\/bp-logo.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-2023\" title=\"bp-logo\" src=\"http:\/\/greenenergyreporter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/06\/bp-logo.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"54\" height=\"71\" \/><\/a>What\u2019s up with BP\u2019s Tony Hayward?<\/p>\n<p>He has significantly scaled back the company\u2019s Alternative Energy unit in recent years, causing <a href=\"http:\/\/greenenergyreporter.com\/2009\/11\/vivienne-cox-formerly-of-bp-alternative-energy-joins-climate-change-capital\/\">big name executives<\/a> to seek <a href=\"http:\/\/greenenergyreporter.com\/2010\/01\/duke-energy-generation-services-appoints-dorazio-to-lead-wind-energy-development\/\">greener pastures<\/a>, and shelved the \u201cBeyond Petroleum\u201d slogan of his predecessor.<\/p>\n<p>Yet, today he\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ft.com\/cms\/s\/0\/b54c822c-1103-11df-9a9e-00144feab49a.html?nclick_check=1\">chirping<\/a> about the good intentions of U.S. and Chinese negotiators at Copenhagen and BP\u2019s plans for continued investment in renewables.<span id=\"more-6062\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The FT has a preview of Hayward\u2019s speech to the London Business School today (which is not up on the BP Web site yet), which seems like a PR effort to blunt criticism following the <a href=\"http:\/\/greenenergyreporter.com\/2010\/02\/bp-cuts-expenses-at-renewable-energy-unit-by-4-bln\/\">fourth quarter earnings call<\/a> on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>Hayward, apparently, will say that the company still plans to invest $1 billion a year in alternative energy, focussing its efforts on biofuels and solar power equipment &#8212; commercially viable areas.<\/p>\n<p>He also is bullish on the price of carbon, expecting a doublig of today\u2019s price of \u20ac13.<\/p>\n<p>According to the FT, Hayward will say<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>this is our way of ensuring that our investments are competitive not only in today\u2019s world but in a future where carbon has a more robust price.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Is the company trying to hold onto its enviro-credibility while becoming an increasingly marginal player in renewables?<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/feeds.feedburner.com\/~r\/GreenEnergyReporter\/~4\/zy-PDzHarcU\" height=\"1\" width=\"1\"\/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>What\u2019s up with BP\u2019s Tony Hayward?
