While the ban on Skype over 3G ended months ago, AT&T just lifted the floodgates for streaming television content for Sling users. According to the New York Times’ Bits Blog<\/a>, AT&T announced this morning that it will once again allow the SlingPlayer iPhone app to stream content over its 3G network.<\/p>\n

This means that all you Slingbox users can now carry your TV with you whevever you go, not just where you can find a WiFi hotspot.<\/p>\n

AT&T first restricted<\/a> Sling’s iPhone app last May, shortly after putting similar restrictions on Skype. While it removed the Skype restrictions months ago, with iPhone opening up the gates yesterday, AT&T said it had to run some tests before opening up to Sling again.<\/p>\n

“Since mid-December 2009, AT&T has been testing the app and has recently notified Sling Media — as well as Apple — that the optimized app can run on its 3G network,” quotes the Times from an AT&T press release. <\/p>\n

While the upgraded app will not be immediately available, Apple is expected to approve the app soon. It will be available as a free upgrade for users who have already bought a previous version.\n<\/p>\n
