Six individuals have been selected for resident fellowships at the Harvard Kennedy School\u2019s Institute of Politics (IOP). The announcement was made Jan. 11.<\/p>\n
The fellows selected include Mary Catherine (M.C.) Andrews<\/strong>, special assistant to President George W. Bush and director of the White House Office of Global Communications (2003-05); Manny Diaz<\/strong>, mayor, Miami (2001-09), and former president, U.S. Conference of Mayors; Ernest Istook<\/strong>, U.S. representative (R-Okla., 1993-2007) and distinguished fellow, The Heritage Foundation; Greg Nickels<\/strong>, mayor, Seattle (2002-09), and author, U.S. Mayors Climate Protection Agreement; John Sweeney<\/strong>, president emeritus<\/em>, AFL-CIO, and president, AFL-CIO (1995-2009).<\/p>\n Former Haitian Prime Minister Michele Pierre-Louis<\/strong>, selected as a spring 2010 IOP Fellow and previously scheduled to join the institute this week, will not begin the semester at the IOP as she remains in her home country working to help the Haitian people in the wake of January\u2019s earthquake. The IOP is hopeful Pierre-Louis will be able to join the institute for a limited time later this semester.<\/p>\n \u201cThis fellows class represents every kind of public service at every level in our world today,\u201d said IOP Director Bill Purcell.\u00a0\u201cOur students are committed to exploring paths to public service, and our spring resident fellows will be important guides.\u201d<\/p>\n Over the course of the spring semester, resident fellows will interact with students, participate in the intellectual life of the Harvard community, and lead weekly study groups on a range of topics.<\/p>\n
