{"id":277130,"date":"2010-02-04T09:55:00","date_gmt":"2010-02-04T14:55:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/with-the-toyota-recall-the-lawsuits-cometh-2010-2"},"modified":"2010-02-04T09:55:00","modified_gmt":"2010-02-04T14:55:00","slug":"with-the-toyota-recall-the-lawsuits-cometh","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mereja.media\/index\/277130","title":{"rendered":"With The Toyota Recall, The Lawsuits Cometh"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"float_right\" src=\"http:\/\/static.businessinsider.com\/image\/4b6adf2f0000000000fc7df4\/toyota-recall-parts-ap.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"Toyota Recall Parts (AP)\" style=\"float: right;\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The massive recall on Toyotas, complete with personal tales from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/henry-blodget-apple-founder-woz-my-toyota-prius-accelerates-to-97-mph-on-its-own-scares-the-hell-out-of-me-2010-2\">Steve &#8220;the Woz&#8221; Wozniak<\/a> on his Prius acceleration, can only mean one thing to lawyers&#8230;LAWSUITS!<\/p>\n<p>The ABA Journal&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.abajournal.com\/news\/article\/lawsuits_against_toyota_accelerate\/?utm_source=feedburner&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=ABA+Journal+Top+Stories&amp;utm_content=Google+Reader\">Martha Neil<\/a> has a round-up of suits filed so far, but here are some highlights from her report:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Corpus Christi, Texas plaintiffs&#8217; attorney <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hmglawfirm.com\/\">Robert Hilliard<\/a>* filed suit last Friday on behalf of a local couple and similarly situated persons. The named plaintiffs are claiming their 2008 Avalon accelerated on its own twice, once causing an accident.<\/li>\n<li>Ohio attorney <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wsbclaw.com\/about_us.php\">Stan Chesley<\/a> sued (asserting it could turn into a class action) on behalf of a couple seeking compensation from their inability to drive their Toyota &#8212; they have apparently suffered no injury.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Though the complaint filed by Hilliard claims &#8220;sudden unintended accelerations&#8221; have resulted in &#8220;16 deaths and 243 injuries,&#8221; the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has said no deaths have been reported from a stuck accelerator. However, the article noted, five people have been killed when the cars&#8217; pedals were stuck in the floor mat.<\/p>\n<p>This is, of course, a PR nightmare for Toyota, and the litigation issues will not be limited to the car-marker.
