{"id":278904,"date":"2010-02-04T13:30:00","date_gmt":"2010-02-04T18:30:00","guid":{"rendered":"tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3087194156628161158.post-6935218463071506194"},"modified":"2010-02-04T13:32:35","modified_gmt":"2010-02-04T18:32:35","slug":"fox-business-berkshire-hathaway-loses-sp-aaa-rating","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mereja.media\/index\/278904","title":{"rendered":"FOX BUSINESS: Berkshire Hathaway Loses S&amp;P AAA Rating"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><!-- AddThis Button BEGIN -->Thursday, February 04, 2010<\/p>\n<div xmlns=\"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/1999\/xhtml\" functx=\"http:\/\/www.functx.com\" class=\"authInfo\">\n<h5><span>By <\/span>Ken Sweet<\/h5>\n<h6>MarketWatch Pulse<\/h6>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"mainContent\">\n<style xmlns=\"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/1999\/xhtml\" functx=\"http:\/\/www.functx.com\" type=\"text\/css\">                 .ybuzz { float: right; margin-top: -4px; margin-left: -2px; } \/\/ get ybuzz li to show up properly on the right   <\/style>\n<div xmlns=\"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/1999\/xhtml\" functx=\"http:\/\/www.functx.com\" class=\"socShare\" style=\"z-index: 99999;\">     <\/div>\n<div xmlns=\"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/1999\/xhtml\" functx=\"http:\/\/www.functx.com\" class=\"clear flat\">Standard &amp; Poor\u2019s cut Berkshire Hathaway&#8217;s (BRK.A) coveted AAA credit rating on Thursday to AA+, saying that Berkshire\u2019s    $26 billion acquisition of Burlington Northern Sante Fe will impair the company\u2019s historically strong balance sheet.<\/div>\n<div name=\"articleCont\" xmlns=\"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/1999\/xhtml\" functx=\"http:\/\/www.functx.com\" id=\"articleCont\" style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0);\">\n<p>Analysts at S&amp;P said they were reducing Berkshire\u2019s credit rating because of the railroad purchase and because\u201cBerkshire&#8217;s    overall capital adequacy, as well as that of its insurance operations, has weakened to levels no longer consistent with a    &#8216;AAA&#8217; rating and is not expected to return to extremely strong levels in the near term.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>S&amp;P also returned Berkshire Hathaway&#8217;s, which is run by notable billionaire Warren Buffett, future outlook to \u201cstable,\u201d    a signal that another downgrade of Berkshire\u2019s credit rating was unlikely in the next six months.<\/p>\n<p>S&amp;P had placed Berkshire on \u201cCreditWatch negative\u201d early November after the company announced it would purchase Burlington    Northern in a transaction that Buffett called \u201can all-out bet\u201d on the American economy.<\/p>\n<p>S&amp;P was the last of the three major U.S. ratings agencies to have the company at AAA. Moody&#8217;s Investors Service and Fitch Ratings took that gold standard away last year amid the financial crisis. There are now just five publicly traded companied that carry a AAA rating from S&amp;P: Automatic Data Processing (<a href=\"javascript:stockSearch('ADP');\">ADP<\/a><span id=\"symbol_0\">: <\/span><span id=\"symbol_0_price\">40.69, <\/span><span id=\"symbol_0_change\">-0.11, -0.27%<\/span>),    ExxonMobil (<a href=\"javascript:stockSearch('XOM');\">XOM<\/a><span id=\"symbol_1\">: <\/span><span id=\"symbol_1_price\">65.12, <\/span><span id=\"symbol_1_change\">-1.47, -2.21%<\/span>), Johnson &amp; Johnson (<a href=\"javascript:stockSearch('JNJ');\">JNJ<\/a><span id=\"symbol_2\">: <\/span><span id=\"symbol_2_price\">63.09, <\/span><span id=\"symbol_2_change\">-0.53, -0.83%<\/span>),    Microsoft (<a href=\"javascript:stockSearch('MSFT');\">MSFT<\/a><span id=\"symbol_3\">: <\/span><span id=\"symbol_3_price\">28.11, <\/span><span id=\"symbol_3_change\">-0.52, -1.82%<\/span>) and Pfizer (<a href=\"javascript:stockSearch('PFE');\">PFE<\/a><span id=\"symbol_4\">: <\/span><span id=\"symbol_4_price\">18.22, <\/span><span id=\"symbol_4_change\">-0.39, -2.1%<\/span>).     <\/p>\n<p>Shares of Berkshire\u2019s B-shares, the most liquid class of stock for the company, were down 2.8% to $72.30 on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"textBodyBlack\"><a name=\"comments\"><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Share Investor Links<\/span><\/a><a name=\"comments\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.shareinvestorblog.com\/\">Share Investor Blog<\/a> &#8211;
