{"id":280530,"date":"2010-02-05T04:19:51","date_gmt":"2010-02-05T09:19:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.popcrunch.com\/?p=91879"},"modified":"2010-02-05T04:19:51","modified_gmt":"2010-02-05T09:19:51","slug":"kelly-clarkson-defends-%e2%80%9camerican-idol%e2%80%9d-in-taylor-swift-grammys-controversy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mereja.media\/index\/280530","title":{"rendered":"Kelly Clarkson Defends \u201cAmerican Idol\u201d In Taylor Swift Grammys Controversy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Multiplatinum-selling recording artist Kelly Clarkson &#8212;  winner of the first season of <em>American Idol<\/em> &#8212; hit her blog in a fury on Thursday, after the head of Taylor Swift\u2019s record label made a biting reference to the TV talent show that catapulted her to stardom in his attempt to defend the country star&#8217;s widely-panned Grammys duet with Stevie Nicks.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.popcrunch.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/02\/Kelly-Clarkson-Taylor-Swift-Controversy-500x445.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"Kelly Clarkson Taylor Swift Controversy\" width=\"500\" height=\"445\" class=\"alignright size-large wp-image-91882\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"more-91879\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>On Thursday, Scott Borchetta, CEO of Big Machine Records, defended Swift\u2019s Grammys performance by referencing the reality singing competition that introduced the world to Kelly Clarkson, Jennifer Hudson, and Carrie Underwood. <\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cShe is the voice of this generation. She speaks directly to (her fans), and they speak directly back to her,\u201d <\/em>Borchetta told <em>The Tennessean. \u201cThis is not \u2018American Idol.\u2019 This is not a competition of getting up and seeing who can sing the highest note. This is about a true artist and writer and communicator. It\u2019s not about that technically perfect performance.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Bloggers and media outlets, including <em>The New York Times<\/em> and <em>The Washington Post<\/em>, pounced on Swift&#8217;s off-key performance, which Borchetta blames on technical issues. <\/p>\n<p>But it was Borchetta&#8217;s remark about Idol &#8212; not Taylor&#8217;s offensive screeching &#8212; that sent Kelly clicking away at her keyboard in a blogged response, she writes:<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cI understand defending your artist obviously because I have done the same in the past for artists I like, including Taylor, so you might see why its upsetting to read you attacking American Idol for producing simply vocalists that hit \u2018the high notes&#8230;.Thank you for that \u2018Captain Obvious\u2019 sense of humor because you know what, we not only hit the high notes, you forgot to mention we generally hit the \u2018right\u2019 notes as well.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The powerhouse rattled on with: <em>\u201cEvery artist has a bad performance or two and that is understandable, but throwing blame will not make the situation at hand any better.
