{"id":281371,"date":"2010-02-04T16:03:43","date_gmt":"2010-02-04T21:03:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.edf.org\/transportation\/?p=312"},"modified":"2010-02-04T16:03:43","modified_gmt":"2010-02-04T21:03:43","slug":"t4s-plan-to-create-half-a-million-green-jobs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mereja.media\/index\/281371","title":{"rendered":"T4&#8217;s Plan to Create Half a Million Green Jobs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Earlier today the <a rel=\"nofollow\"  href=\"http:\/\/www.epi.org\/\">Economic Policy Institute<\/a> (EPI) released a report, <a rel=\"nofollow\"  href=\"http:\/\/www.epi.org\/publications\/entry\/ib271\/\">The Labor Market Impact of Transportation for America\u2019s Jobs Plan<\/a>, which models <a rel=\"nofollow\"  href=\"http:\/\/t4america.org\/\">Transportation for America\u2019s<\/a> (T4&#039;s) jobs proposal. The $34.3 billion proposal, focusing predominately on <a rel=\"nofollow\"  href=\"http:\/\/blogs.edf.org\/transportation\/2009\/12\/03\/fix-it-first-is-the-smarter-choice-for-jobs-the-environment-and-our-safety\/\"><strong>Fix-it-First<\/strong><\/a><strong> transportation infrastructure repair and public transportation<\/strong>, <strong>would create 480,000 jobs. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>These jobs would help out Americans who need it most.<\/strong> Low-wage workers, including workers without college or high school degrees, would benefit the most from this jobs package. In fact, 70% of these jobs would help Americans without college degrees.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0T4\u2019s proposal calls for the following funding split:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>$8 billion in Fix-it-First bridge repair and interstate highway maintenance<\/li>\n<li>$16 billion for transit (split between rehabilitation, new starts projects, intercity bus routes, and capital funding, which could be <a rel=\"nofollow\"  href=\"http:\/\/blogs.edf.org\/transportation\/2009\/12\/09\/the-jobs-bill-transit-operations-funding-will-save-green-jobs\/\">flexed for operations<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li>$1.3 billion for Amtrak<\/li>\n<li>$2 billion for clean air and technology<\/li>\n<li>$2.5 billion for High Speed Rail<\/li>\n<li>$3 billion for TIGER performance-based grants (split between new roads, transit, and technology)<\/li>\n<li>$1.5 billion for <a rel=\"nofollow\"  href=\"http:\/\/blogs.edf.org\/transportation\/2010\/01\/28\/state-of-the-union-let%e2%80%99s-fix-it-first-and-fix-it-for-all\/\">Fix-it-for-All:<\/a> Livability and bicycle\/pedestrian improvements<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>These jobs are immediate.<\/strong> And no one region benefits- <strong>these jobs are located across the U.S.<\/strong>, in both rural and urban areas. <\/p>\n<p>EPI\u2019s report shows us that prioritizing transit, Fix-it-First, and funding transit operations creates immediate, good jobs for all Americans and benefits the environment.
