\"\"CHICAGO\u00a0 — A west suburban man was ordered held on a $50,000 cash bond Thursday after police stopped his car on the Southwest Side on Wednesday morning, a stop which led to the recovery of nearly $5 million in drugs and cash.<\/p>\n

Luis Miguel Herrera, 29, of Cicero was charged with possession of more than 5,000 grams of marijuana, according to Chicago Police.<\/p>\n

Bond was set at $50,000 cash Thursday, according to Cook County State’s Attorney’s office spokeswoman Tandra Simonton. A preliminary hearing is set for Feb. 23. <\/span><\/p>\n

After narcotics officers conducted surveillance, they stopped a car in the 2600 block of South Kildare Avenue about 8:30 a.m. Wednesday.<\/p>\n

The officers had just concluded part of an ongoing investigation into the transportation and sale of large quantities of drugs in the area, according to a release from police.<\/p>\n

Officers recovered about 220 pounds of cannabis and $8,000 in cash in the car, which was driven by Herrera, the release said. The cannabis had an estimated street value of $1.6 million.<\/p>\n

Further investigation led police to a garage in the 2600 block of South Kildare, where they recovered 25 kilograms of cocaine with a street value of $3.1 million, the release said.<\/p>\n

Four pounds of methamphetamine were also found in a second car. Police estimate the meth has a street value of almost $600,000.<\/p>\n

A Beretta .99 mm semi-automatic handgun was also recovered.<\/p>\n
