{"id":292900,"date":"2010-02-08T10:13:39","date_gmt":"2010-02-08T15:13:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/careandsupport.direct.gov.uk\/?p=2911"},"modified":"2010-02-08T10:13:39","modified_gmt":"2010-02-08T15:13:39","slug":"pm-sets-path-towards-a-national-care-service","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mereja.media\/index\/292900","title":{"rendered":"PM sets path towards a National Care Service"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><object classid=\"clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000\" width=\"486\" height=\"412\" codebase=\"http:\/\/download.macromedia.com\/pub\/shockwave\/cabs\/flash\/swflash.cab#version=6,0,40,0\"><param name=\"name\" value=\"flashObj\" \/><param name=\"bgcolor\" value=\"#FFFFFF\" \/><param name=\"flashvars\" value=\"videoId=65565314001&amp;playerId=1570028817&amp;viewerSecureGatewayURL=https:\/\/console.brightcove.com\/services\/amfgateway&amp;servicesURL=http:\/\/services.brightcove.com\/services&amp;cdnURL=http:\/\/admin.brightcove.com&amp;domain=embed&amp;autoStart=false&amp;\" \/><param name=\"src\" value=\"http:\/\/c.brightcove.com\/services\/viewer\/federated_f8\/1570028817\" \/><embed type=\"application\/x-shockwave-flash\" width=\"486\" height=\"412\" src=\"http:\/\/c.brightcove.com\/services\/viewer\/federated_f8\/1570028817\" flashvars=\"videoId=65565314001&amp;playerId=1570028817&amp;viewerSecureGatewayURL=https:\/\/console.brightcove.com\/services\/amfgateway&amp;servicesURL=http:\/\/services.brightcove.com\/services&amp;cdnURL=http:\/\/admin.brightcove.com&amp;domain=embed&amp;autoStart=false&amp;\" bgcolor=\"#FFFFFF\" name=\"flashObj\"><\/embed><\/object><\/p>\n<p><strong>The Prime Minister has pledged more choice, control and personalisation in health and social care.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Addressing an audience at health think-tank the King\u2019s Fund this morning, Gordon Brown set out plans to expand the offer of care in the home and to provide dedicated one-to-one nursing for cancer patients.<\/p>\n<p>The PM said the reforms would work towards creating an NHS which focuses more on prevention and early intervention.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPeople want public services that are not take it or leave it, but personal to their needs; tailored to their aspirations and responsive to their choices and decisions about how they want to run their own lives.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>By accelerating reform, the PM aims to introduce new, legally enforcable NHS guarantees including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Cancer patients to see a specialist within two weeks of referral by a GP and cancer test results within one week<\/li>\n<li>All patients to be offered hospital treatment within no more than 18 weeks of seeing their GP<\/li>\n<li>All patients will be able to register with a GP open into evenings and weekends<\/li>\n<li>A regular healthcheck on the NHS for everyone over 40<\/li>\n<li>In the care system, all those with the highest needs being looked after in their own homes to receive free personal care<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Earlier in the morning, the PM visited a community centre in the London borough of Newham, where he met elderly and disabled people receiving support to continue living independently.<\/p>\n<p>The PM said a new national care service would aim to extend the offer of care in the home.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cChoice, control and personalisation is not just something for the young &#8211; the choices people make later in their lives might be different, but the right to a choice, to personalised care is just as important if not more so.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0Read a full transcript of the speech <a href=\"http:\/\/www.number10.gov.uk\/Page22402\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Prime Minister has pledged more choice, control and personalisation in health and social care.
