Gelbaum knows the company well for being one of its major investor via his cleantech-focused venture capital fund Quercus Trust.<span id=\"more-6171\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Gelbaum takes over for Frank Smith, who became Entech&#8217;s CEO in March 2008, <a href=\"http:\/\/earth2tech.com\/2010\/02\/08\/quiet-quercus-trust-chief-gelbaum-signs-on-as-solar-ceo\/?utm_source=feedburner&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Feed%3A+earth2tech+%28Earth2Tech%29\" >reports Earth2Tech<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>A year ago Quercus <a href=\"http:\/\/greenenergyreporter.com\/2009\/04\/steep-drop-in-vc-clean-tech-investments\/\" >was the third-most active venture fund<\/a> investing in cleantech.  Earth2Tech reports that Quercus is invested in at least 48 renewable energy and cleantech companies.<\/p>\n<p>Gelbaum and his Quercus fund are notoriously discreet and publicity -shy.
