{"id":294603,"date":"2010-02-12T19:21:38","date_gmt":"2010-02-13T00:21:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/seattletimes.nwsource.com\/html\/northwestvoices\/2011018759_superbowlads.html?syndication=rss"},"modified":"2010-02-12T19:21:38","modified_gmt":"2010-02-13T00:21:38","slug":"super-bowl-ads","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mereja.media\/index\/294603","title":{"rendered":"Super Bowl ads"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Not so super<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>On Sunday, I suffered through three hours of the most egregious advertising ever foisted on the public during the Super Bowl [\u201cBig laughs \u2014 and no big controversy \u2014 in \u2018Super\u2019 ads,\u201d page one, Feb. 8].<\/p>\n<p>The vast majority of the ads were either inane, used violence \u2014 or both. The ads either said almost nothing about the products being pushed or were so distracting that I couldn\u2019t glean any useful information.<\/p>\n<p>Why is it beyond most companies to simply present the qualities of their products and let me \u2014 the public \u2014 decide if I will try or continue to use what they want me to buy? Do they really believe such stupid, disrespectful glitz will make up my mind? It\u2019s quite the opposite \u2014 I find their efforts repulsive.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u2014 Kit Marx, Edmonds<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Not even newsworthy<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I was dismayed when the front page of The Seattle Times featured a very long article about Super Bowl ads. Not only is this not news, but it seems to me that anyone who cared about Super Bowl ads would have seen them when they watched the game.<\/p>\n<p>A column that would have been more appropriate for the front page would have been Jerry Large\u2019s piece on Chinese versus American education [\u201cLearning not to copy China,\u201d NWMonday, Feb. 8]. This was a very thought-provoking article that we all should be talking about.
