{"id":296506,"date":"2010-02-08T18:59:36","date_gmt":"2010-02-08T23:59:36","guid":{"rendered":"tag:www.mentor.com:\/\/4ed97ba336f4b86317d34e222aab9237"},"modified":"2010-02-08T18:59:36","modified_gmt":"2010-02-08T23:59:36","slug":"blog-postvision-at-40","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mereja.media\/index\/296506","title":{"rendered":"blog post:Vision at 40+"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I got my eyes checked on Friday and I walked out of there over $400 lighter in the wallet, and I\u2019m covered under two vision insurance policies.\u00a0 What did I get?<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li> An eye exam for contact lenses<\/li>\n<li>Some sample cleaner solution<\/li>\n<li>A commitment for them to buy 6 months worth of contacts once we determine the pair they prescribed are fitted correctly.<\/li>\n<li>$350 worth of contact \u201cfitting\u201d.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>That last one is a difficult one for me to rationalize.\u00a0 Last year my contact fitting fee was about $100.\u00a0 Because I am over 40, and my eyes don\u2019t focus as well, I am trying these so-called multifocal lenses.\u00a0 My eye doctor described them like looking through a screen door\u2026If you look through the screen door and focus on what is on the other side you won\u2019t notice the door.\u00a0 So if\u00a0 I focus far or close these lenses will support that endeavor, though I suppose not as well as someone under 40 can see.\u00a0 The doctor offered up the option of the single focal contact with a pair of reading glasses but my vanity didn\u2019t allow proper consideration of that option.<\/p>\n<p><!--content--><\/p>\n<p>One thing that really bothers me is that\u00a0 they dilated my eyes as part of the scam, I mean exam.\u00a0 When it came time to put up money I was a little off my game because everything within a couple of feet of me was blurry.\u00a0 I couldn\u2019t read the contract I signed, especially the bold print at the bottom stating \u201cNo refunds on fitting costs\u201d.\u00a0 I think I should have asked for my prescriptions and told them I\u2019d be back when I could focus.<\/p>\n<p>I called the Dr.\u2019s office on Saturday to ask about another charge and told the person on the phone that this fitting fee was a difficult pill to swallow.\u00a0 She giggled and told me that at least I wouldn\u2019t have to pay it next year.\u00a0 Really?!?!?!? They told me the same thing last year.\u00a0 I plan on getting the single focus contact my next visit, at which point I think they wouldn\u2019t need to charge me such a huge fee for fitting since I have already been fitted for single vision the last two years.\u00a0 We\u2019ll see if they agree.<\/p>\n<p>I have tried to understand why the fee would be so insane.\u00a0 I have tried to do some mental math on how many people work there and their time, the other costs of their operations, and the fact that they are in the business to make money.\u00a0 In the end I\u2019m not able to feel that \u201cwheels of commerce\u201d\u00a0 gratification.<\/p>\n<p>In my world of Thermal\/Airflow Design Consulting Services it would be like me binding my customer to a contract which charges them for work that may not be necessary, before they can receive other bids, while they are blindfolded.\u00a0 It may not be exactly like that, but it sure feels that way.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/feeds.feedburner.com\/~r\/mgc_mechanical\/~4\/mLluWtvNpKk\" height=\"1\" width=\"1\"\/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I got my eyes checked on Friday and I walked out of there over $400 lighter in the wallet, and I\u2019m covered under two vision insurance policies.\u00a0 What did I get?
