If you’ve already made the switch from traditional carrier voicemail to visual voicemail, there’s no turning back. Over the years I grew to loathe the carrier-based voicemail system, whereby I’d have to listen to messages in order they were received. On a visual platform you can scroll through and listen to only the messages you want, saving the rest for later or skipping them entirely without listening. We’ve seen plenty of visual voicemail platforms for BlackBerry devices, both free and premium. One of them, previously uncovered on BBGeeks, is HulloMail. Since they just released an update, I thought it would be nice to give them a quick look.<\/p>\n

Like other visual voicemail systems, you’ll have to let the app enable call forwarding. Thankfully, this stopped being an issue with most carriers, as they allow the feature for free. From there, HulloMail works like others, in that it delivers voicemails to its application, and can even push them to your inbox. It also notifies you of missed calls, even when your phone was off or out of service. Again, this is one excellent feature of most visual voicemail services. You can also sync your contacts, so the application will recognize numbers from your address book.<\/p>\n

HulloMail’s unique feature is Hullos, short voice recordings you can trade with friends anywhere around the world. It’s like a push-to-talk service, but less timely. As long as you have an unlimited data plan you won’t see charges for these messages, so it can talk quickly, easily, and cheaply with any other HulloMail user. <\/p>\n

The setup for HulloMail is pretty easy and is done right from the application. The downside, as I’ve found, is that once you set up HulloMail to forward you have to call your carrier to have your voicemail turned back to normal. <\/p>\n

Still, if you’re looking for a free visual voicemail platform, you could do worse than HulloMail. Check it out at App World<\/a>.<\/p>\n
