Let&#8217;s start with what you should<br \/>\nNEVER do: Pour it down the drain. <\/p>\n<p>Even the tiniest amounts of bacon grease or cooking oil can<br \/>\nclog up your pipes and ultimately back up sewer systems.\u00a0 <\/p>\n<p>Rinsing with a lot of hot water as you<br \/>\npour it down the drain won&#8217;t help. Once that grease cools down, it solidifies<br \/>\nand sticks to pipes. <\/p>\n<p>Luckily <a href=\"http:\/\/earth911.com\/blog\/2008\/11\/17\/keep-those-pipes-clean-this-holiday-season\/\">Earth 911<br \/>\nhas plenty of suggestions<\/a> for how to responsibly dispose, reuse, and even<br \/>\nrecycle your leftover cooking oil. <\/p>\n<ul class=\"unIndentedList\">\n<li>\nAbsorb small amounts of grease with shredded paper, used kitty<br \/>\nlitter, or other absorbent materials and then throw it in the<br \/>\ntrash. <\/li>\n<li>\nPour oil in a metal container (coffee cans are a<br \/>\npopular option). You can throw it out once it solidifies. <\/li>\n<li>\nSome people <a href=\"http:\/\/www.saveur.com\/article\/Recipes\/Bacon-Fried-Chicken-with-Gravy\">save<br \/>\nbacon grease<\/a> or used cooking oil to reuse for cooking. If you choose to do<br \/>\nthat, you might want to <a href=\"http:\/\/chowhound.chow.com\/topics\/291925\">strain<br \/>\nit first and store it in the fridge<\/a>. Again, a coffee can comes in handy. <\/li>\n<li>\nA growing number of communities are offering<br \/>\nresidents the ability to recycle their cooking oil.
