A former publications and copy center director for Chicago State University was indicted Tuesday on fraud and official-misconduct charges for allegedly bilking the university out of $65,104.<\/p>\n

A Cook County Grand Jury returned the eight-count indictment against Michael Vernon Warren, who will be arraigned on March 2, according to Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan\u2019s office, which began investigating Warren in September 2007.<\/p>\n

Warren, 60, and his wife owned a business, called the A&W Group, which was paid $251,000 by the university in early 2007 to supply two copying machines and paper for a federally funded \u201ctextbooks\/teaching and learning materials program,\u201d Madigan spokesman Scott Mulford said.<\/span><\/p>\n

Warren did not disclose his ownership in the firm when his firm entered into the contracts.<\/p>\n

A&W then inflated the cost of the machines by $52,376 and paper by $12,728, Mulford said.<\/p>\n

When Chicago State discovered what had happened, Warren was fired and the school repaid the federal government, the school told the Chicago Sun-Times in 2008.<\/p>\n

If convicted, Warren could be sentenced to up to five years in prison. A lawyer that the Attorney General\u2019s office said was representing Warren had no immediate comment this afternoon.<\/p>\n

Attempts to reach Warren were unsuccessful.<\/p>\n
