Delphi, a major supplier of components to GM, has also announced that their new Kokomo, Indiana plant will hire non-union employees to build parts for the Volt. Final assembly point of the Volt will be GM\u2019s Detroit-Hamtramck plant, which utilizes a UAW workforce.<\/p>\n<p><span id=\"more-36696\"><\/span>GM sees this as a cost cutting measure necessary for the automaker\u2019s long term survival.  The UAW views it as a slap in the face, especially in light of recent concessions on wages and benefits.  <\/p>\n<p>Historically, labor disputes with the UAW have produced work slowdowns and stoppages, as well as dramatically reduced product quality.
