There was a 20% chance of more showers Wednesday morning, with snow flurries forecast at higher elevations in the Antelope Valley and parts of the San Gabriel Mountains, said Bill Hoffer, a spokesman for the National Weather Service at Oxnard.<\/p>\n
He warned that cold temperatures could produce black ice on the roads. It was so cold in Burbank that passengers at Bob Hope Airport waiting for a 7 a.m. Southwest Airlines flight to Oakland were told they would have to wait until ice on the plane’s wings melted.<\/p>\n
"Folks, there will be a delay,"\u00a0an airline worker said over the intercom. "There’s ice on the wings, and as this is Southern California, there is no de-icing equipment. We will have to wait for the sun to come up to warm the wings."<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
By late Tuesday, there were\u00a0reports of\u00a0.51 inches of rain\u00a0in Long Beach, .58 inches in Burbank and .69 inches in Whittier. At the San Gabriel Dam, the measurement was 1.73 inches. <\/p>\n
At Wrightwood, 9 inches of snow had fallen, with\u00a012-14 inches\u00a0at Mountain High.<\/p>\n
No major damage was reported from the recent rainstorm, but officials said they were assessing conditions to determine whether it was safe for residents to return to their homes in La Ca\u00f1ada Flintridge, La Crescenta, Soledad Canyon, Acton and Aliso Canyon.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re hoping to get residents in their homes later today,\u201d said Nicole Nishida, a spokeswoman for the Los Angeles County Sheriff\u2019s Department.<\/p>\n
Temperatures are expected to rise the rest of the week, Hoffer said.<\/p>\n
