How about themes that do the opposite? What about themes that appear to be simple and aesthetic, but really pack a ton of functionality? What about themes that look like workhorses but actually pack a visual punch? We’re covering all the bases this week on Theme Review Wednesday, taking you through three themes that we’ve found particularly awesome.

Quatro

Up first we have a theme by C_86, a developer we haven’t reviewed in the past. They do have 26 themes in the BBGeeks Store, so I feel like it’s overdue that we’re getting to them. Plus, their themes are cheaper than the ones we normally review, which is a nice little perk.

The Quatro theme centers on aesthetics rather than function. That’s not to say that it’s functionally deficient, just that it doesn’t cram as many icons as possible onto the home screen. It does feature a six-icon bottom dock, plus a Today view for calendar, profile button, and weather icon dock. For users of QuickLaunch, Quatro allows for spacebar access. Otherwise, the theme dazzles visually, with interesting icons against a customizable background. I wouldn’t recommend changing it, though, as it matches the icons and top bar nicely.

You can get the Quatro theme for $1.99. It works with BlackBerry models running OS 4.6 and higher.

!Reflect7 Carbon

One thing we’ve seen with newer themes is the ability to fit more stuff on one screen. Some themes do this elegantly, while some are a bit clunkier. Today we’re looking at one of the more elegant ones. !Reflect7 Carbon might be one of the stranger theme names we’ve reviewed, but don’t let it fool you. The theme isn’t very strange at all. In fact, if you enjoy a simplistic home screen look, but still want more options available on it, you might want to check out this theme.

All you really see are the basics: click, profile icon, meters, and a five-icon dock. There’s so much more hidden in the theme, though. You can click the clock to bring up the application and you can click the signal meter for manage connections, something I think all new themes should employ. The battery meter is also clickable for options, and there’s a weather icon slot on the top right. Below the icon dock you can set two more customizable icons. The only downside is that you need to set thees icons in certain spots. The theme does come with instructions, though.

You can get the !Reflect7 Carbon theme for $3.99 until February 14. The theme works with BlackBerry models running OS 4.5 and above.

Keen

Ever want to make your own icons? Of course, you can with BlackBerry Theme Studio, but what about people who aren’t into custom theme development? Wouldn’t it be cool to change icons to different pictures on your device? That’s what you’ll get with the latest from Elecite. The theme is called Keen, and it’s definitely a change from what you’ve seen.

The neatest feature, it would appear, is the customizable Photographic icons. Have a picture that you think would make a great calendar icon? Change it up in the themes options. Even cooler, you can click the Close button and all of the icons will disappear. This makes the theme conducive to custom wallpapers that you don’t want hiding behind all that text. Keen also comes with six static home screen icons — calendar, clock, messages, weather, Twitter, and Facebook — in addition to the six customizable dock icons.

You can get the Keen theme at Elecite for $6.99. It requires OS 5.0, and is compatible with the Tour, Bolds, and Storms.

This post originated at BBGeeks.com – home to all things Blackberry!
