Across its mobile sites and apps, the <em>NYT&#8217;s<\/em> received 75 million mobile pageviews in December alone, while its popular free iPhone app reached 3 million downloads since its launch in July &#8216;08.\n<\/p>\n<p>In addition to the free newspaper app, the NYT is currently working on some other pay-to-download apps. Right now, users can pay $5.99 in the iTunes App Store for &#8220;Learning English with The New York Times,&#8221; which was released at the end of December. <\/p>\n<p>There is also a New York Times (<a href=\"http:\/\/finance.paidcontent.org\/paidcontent?Page=QUOTE&#038;Ticker=NYT\" class=\"ticker\" title=\"NYT\">NYSE: NYT<\/a>) Crossword app, which has a tiered pricing structure: 30-day subscription costs $1.99, while users can get 6-month&#8217;s use for $9.99 or an annual subscription for $16.99. The NYT&#8217;s BlackBerry Crossword App and a Sudoku app both cost $2.99 per month. <\/p>\n<p>While the free newspaper app continues to be popular, it ranks number two in the &#8220;free news&#8221; category under Zinio&#8217;s magazine reader app.<\/p>\n<p>In other mobile rankings, the <em>NYT<\/em> still has some catching up to do. In terms of unique users in December, the <em>NYT<\/em> placed seventh behind CNN.com&#8217;s mobile site, which had 12.3 million uniques.
