{"id":302727,"date":"2010-02-10T14:13:45","date_gmt":"2010-02-10T19:13:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.discovermagazine.com\/badastronomy\/?p=11298"},"modified":"2010-02-10T14:13:45","modified_gmt":"2010-02-10T19:13:45","slug":"insulation%e2%80%a6-of-tomorrow-bad-astronomy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mereja.media\/index\/302727","title":{"rendered":"Insulation\u2026 OF TOMORROW | Bad Astronomy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This is cool: recent tech advances have lowered the cost of making aerogel sufficiently <a rel=\"nofollow\"  href=\"http:\/\/www.popsci.com\/technology\/article\/2010-02\/aerogels-hit-consumer-insulation-market\">that it can be used for home insulation<\/a>! <\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.discovermagazine.com\/badastronomy\/2006\/01\/15\/i-meant-stardust-home\/files\/2006\/aerogel_ba.jpg\" class=\"alignright\"><a rel=\"nofollow\"  href=\"http:\/\/blogs.discovermagazine.com\/badastronomy\/2006\/01\/15\/i-meant-stardust-home\/\">I&#8217;ve written about his bizzaro stuff before<\/a>: it&#8217;s a silica gel that has so many air pockets in it it is essentially barely more dense than air itself. It has a lot of uses, like putting on board spacecraft to catch particles from comets.
