{"id":304605,"date":"2010-02-10T21:14:00","date_gmt":"2010-02-11T02:14:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/techdirt.com\/articles\/20100210\/1509328117.shtml"},"modified":"2010-02-10T21:14:00","modified_gmt":"2010-02-11T02:14:00","slug":"iran-says-no-to-gmail-yes-to-we-spy-on-you-email","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mereja.media\/index\/304605","title":{"rendered":"Iran Says No To Gmail; Yes To &#8216;We Spy On You&#8217; Email"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Given reports that Iran is potentially handing out <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pbs.org\/mediashift\/2010\/02\/bloggers-face-death-sentence-in-iran-some-escape-to-france040.html\" >death sentences<\/a> to bloggers whose content the Iranian gov&#8217;t dislikes, you would think that a secure and private means of communication is important for many people in that country.  And apparently the Iranian government realizes this and doesn&#8217;t like it.  So it&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wired.com\/epicenter\/2010\/02\/iran-to-pull-the-plug-on-gmail\/\" >decided to try to pull the plug on Gmail<\/a>, and instead roll out a &#8220;national email service.&#8221;  Of course, that just means an email service that the government has full access to, which I&#8217;m sure doesn&#8217;t fool anyone.
