Elliot G. Mayfield was with his 11-year-old daughter, a stepdaughter and a friend when he shot Samuel Fullilove at a Woodlawn bus stop Sunday night, Assistant State\u2019s Attorney Angel Essig said at a bond hearing Tuesday afternoon on Mayfield\u2019s first-degree murder charges.<\/p>\n
Mayfield was talking to another man, a former co-worker and client, at the bus stop at 6114 S. Martin Luther King Drive when Fullilove approached and tried to sell him drugs, Essig said.<\/p>\n
Mayfield told police Fullilove, 33, started yelling at him, saying \u201cBreezy did it. He won the Super Bowl. I got nickel rocks. I got nickel blows,\u201d a police report said.<\/p>\n
Mayfield, who has a 1990 drug conviction, refused and said, \u201cI don\u2019t do that anymore. I am just trying to make sure that my daughters get home safely,\u201d the police report said.<\/p>\n
But Fullilove kept taunting the older man and even swung at Mayfield but didn\u2019t make contact, Essig said.<\/p>\n
Fullilove also got into one of \u201chis daughter\u2019s faces,\u2019\u2019 the police report said, and Mayfield became angry.<\/p>\n
Fullilove even chased Mayfield around as his daughter cried, \u201cLeave my daddy alone.\u201d<\/p>\n
Mayfield eventually pulled out a handgun and drew it to Fullilove\u2019s face, Essig said, but the taunts continued. Mayfield then allegedly shot Fullilove in the chest, killing him.<\/p>\n
Mayfield, of the 6000 block of South Calumet, fled with the girls in car of the former client he had been talking to, Essig said.<\/p>\n
Mayfield called a former girlfriend, telling her \u201csomething had happened,\u201d the police report said. The woman told Mayfield that police had called her and urged him to call detectives.<\/p>\n
Mayfield later called authorities to \u201cclear things up\u201d and told them he could be found at 7749 S. Lowe, police said.<\/p>\n
He also showed officers where he hid the .25 caliber semi-automatic handgun wrapped in a plastic, the police report said.<\/p>\n
Mayfield was ordered held in lieu of $800,000 bail. His relatives refused comment following the bond hearing.<\/p>\n
Fullilove has an extensive criminal history, according to court records.<\/p>\n
