A day after saying it would <a href=\"http:\/\/moconews.net\/article\/419-sprint-taps-getjar-to-offer-thousands-of-free-apps-to-subscribers\/\" title=\"launch an app store powered by GetJar\">launch an app store powered by GetJar<\/a>, the mobile operator today announced a deal with RealNetworks (<a href=\"http:\/\/finance.paidcontent.org\/paidcontent?Page=QUOTE&#038;Ticker=RNWK\" class=\"ticker\" title=\"RNWK\">NSDQ: RNWK<\/a>) to streamline its music services. <\/p>\n<p>The deal will see Sprint (<a href=\"http:\/\/finance.paidcontent.org\/paidcontent?Page=QUOTE&#038;Ticker=S\" class=\"ticker\" title=\"S\">NYSE: S<\/a>) using RealNetworks&#8217; Media Entertainment Platform to sell ringtones, ringback tones and full-track music. These had been offered as separate services in the past.\n<\/p>\n<p>For RealNetworks, this fits in with their legacy strategy of selling more wholesale services to third-party companies to deliver media, rather than being the content company itself: the news comes days after Real announced it would be <a href=\"http:\/\/paidcontent.org\/article\/419-realnetworks-to-spin-off-rhapsody-will-reduce-stake-to-equal-viacom\/\" title=\"spinning off its digital music service Rhapsody\">spinning off its digital music service Rhapsody<\/a>, a joint venture with Viacom&#8217;s MTV Networks.<\/p>\n<p>Real works with other mobile operators on music services already. In Europe it&#8217;s teamed up with Vodafone (<a href=\"http:\/\/finance.paidcontent.org\/paidcontent?Page=QUOTE&#038;Ticker=VOD\" class=\"ticker\" title=\"VOD\">NYSE: VOD<\/a>) in nine countries for different services: in the UK for the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.vodafone.com\/start\/media_relations\/news\/local_press_releases\/uk_press_releases\/2007\/music_experience.html\" title=\"Vodafone Music\">Vodafone Music<\/a> service; in Spain for a flat-rate music service; and in Germany on a ringback tone service. It also powers a music service for <a href=\"http:\/\/paidcontent.co.uk\/article\/419-broadband-content-bits-sfr-realnetworks-orange-iptv-burberry-social-sta\/\" title=\"SFR in France\">SFR in France<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Enhancing mobile content services builds on an area that Sprint Nextel wants to drive more revenue growth in the future. In yesterday&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/moconews.net\/article\/419-sprint-nextel-posts-1-billion-loss-sharpens-focus-on-prepaid\/\" title=\"quarterly results\">quarterly results<\/a>, where the company announced a $980 million loss, the company said that $19.50 of its ARPU is coming from data on its CDMA network.
