{"id":313404,"date":"2010-02-12T16:06:41","date_gmt":"2010-02-12T21:06:41","guid":{"rendered":"tag:typepad.com,2003:post-6a00d8341c630a53ef0128779691c4970c"},"modified":"2010-02-12T16:06:41","modified_gmt":"2010-02-12T21:06:41","slug":"l-a-authorities-trying-to-clarify-swiss-position-on-polanski-extradition","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mereja.media\/index\/313404","title":{"rendered":"L.A. authorities trying to clarify Swiss position on Polanski extradition"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"http:\/\/latimesblogs.latimes.com\/files\/1978_0201_polanski.jpg\" src=\"http:\/\/latimesblogs.latimes.com\/files\/1978_0201_polanski.jpg\" style=\"margin: 9px; cursor: -moz-zoom-in; width: 288px; height: 455px; float: left;\" title=\"http:\/\/latimesblogs.latimes.com\/files\/1978_0201_polanski.jpg\"><\/img><\/p>\n<p>L.A. authorities are trying to clarify the status of Roman Polanski&#8217;s extradition to the U.S. after a Swiss justice official said the country won&#8217;t extradite<br \/>\nthe director to the United States until L.A. courts resolves related legal disputes.<\/p>\n<p>A spokeswoman for the Los Angeles County district attorney\u2019s office<br \/>\nsaid in a statement that it was looking into \u201csomewhat<br \/>\nconflicting news reports from Switzerland\u201d<br \/>\nover the extradition process.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt present, this rests with the Swiss courts,\u201d spokeswoman Sandi<br \/>\nGibbons said.\n<\/p>\n<p>A Swiss official said Friday that Polanski should remain under house arrest at his<br \/>\nAlpine lodge until the courts in California resolve various legal<br \/>\nissues.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;When the question is still open, why should he be extradited?&quot; justice official Rudolf<br \/>\nWyss told\u00a0 the Associated Press. &quot;As long as the question is still open,<br \/>\nour decision depends on that.&quot;<\/p>\n<p> Last month, a judge rejected Polanski&#8217;s request to be sentenced in absentia, scuttling the<br \/>\ndirector&#8217;s latest bid to end his three-decade-old child sex case.<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"netlink\" href=\"http:\/\/news.latimes.com\/bin\/latimes.pl?state=md6342.1.3&amp;f=doc&amp;p_u_all=#h5\" name=\"h4\" type=\"button_count\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a class=\"netlink\" href=\"http:\/\/news.latimes.com\/bin\/latimes.pl?state=md6342.1.3&amp;f=doc&amp;p_u_all=#h5\" name=\"h4\" type=\"button_count\"><\/a>\n<\/p>\n<p>The judge hoped that such a sentencing would allow his lawyers to<br \/>\nlay out evidence of judicial misconduct in his case and secure him a<br \/>\nsentence of no further time behind bars.
