{"id":313598,"date":"2010-02-12T12:26:46","date_gmt":"2010-02-12T17:26:46","guid":{"rendered":"tag:www.armscontrolwonk.com,2010-02-12:57f256023a9af1385990be02cc9db91e\/2a466b67f67e244a70cd2623563f8836"},"modified":"2010-02-12T12:26:46","modified_gmt":"2010-02-12T17:26:46","slug":"iran-as-a-nuclear-state-11","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mereja.media\/index\/313598","title":{"rendered":"Iran as a Nuclear State [11]"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I see that some media outlets are <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nationalpost.com\/news\/story.html?id=2552810\">latching<\/a> on to Mahmoud Ahmadinejad&#8217;s claim that Iran is a &#8220;nuclear state&#8221; as though this is a profound bit of reading the tea leaves. <\/p>\n<p>A quick perusal of lexis-nexis suggests this is something like the eighth time in four years that Ahmadinejad (or an aide) has declared Iran to be a nuclear state, nuclear power or member of the nuclear club.  I am sure you can find more, if you don&#8217;t have anything better better to do.<\/p>\n<p>Here is my tentative list:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Iran is a nuclear power. (Ahmadinejad aide, September 2009)<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<blockquote>\n<p>As a result of the resistance of Iranian people, the country has reached a major goal which is to become a nuclear state. (April 2008)<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Iran is among the world&#8217;s nine nuclear states. (July 2007)<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Iran is already a nuclear state and possesses the necessary technology for producing its own nuclear fuel. (June 2007)<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<blockquote>\n<p>The Iranian people have reached the stage of nuclear industrial production and Iran has thus joined the club of great nuclear states. (April 2007)<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Becoming a nuclear state is a high aspiration and a holy goal for Iran. (January 2007)<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<blockquote>\n<p>The Islamic Republic of Iran is now a nuclear power.
