Berlin <a href=\"http:\/\/latimesblogs.latimes.com\/unleashed\/2010\/01\/indian-rhinoceros-calf-great-one-horned-rhino.html\">welcomed an Indian rhinoceros calf last month<\/a>, and on Feb. 7, it celebrated another new addition:\u00a0a black rhinoceros calf.<\/p>\n<p>The calf, which still hasn&#8217;t been named, seems disinclined to leave the side of its mother, Maburi, just yet. <\/p>\n<p>In 1970, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rhinos-irf.org\/black\/\">about 65,000 black rhinos lived in the wild in Africa<\/a>.\u00a0But by the early 1990s, well over 90% of them were gone, primarily due to poaching.\u00a0In recent years, the effort to renew the species has made some impressive strides; the population nearly doubled in slightly more than a decade!<\/p>\n<p>More photos of the calf after the jump! <\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"A black rhinoceros baby stands underneath its mother in their enclosure in the   zoo in Berlin on February 10, 2010.
