Get it back with Unsend Email

A while back, a friend turned me onto a Gmail Labs feature that allows you to unsend emails. Instead of delivering your message right when you hit Send, Gmail holds the message for a few seconds and places an Undo link on the screen. If you made a mistake, you can click that undo and give it another shot. Hey, some of us have itchy trigger fingers on email. Some of us also write things that probably aren’t in our best interests, and the undo feature helps that, too. I can name at least two instances in which I wrote a poorly thought out email, but had the wherewithal to click undo before it became permanent. For those of you who want such a feature on your BlackBerry, developer PuguaSoft has created your solution.

Unlike Gmail’s unsend feature, Unsend Email allows you to set the amount of time your email stays in escrow. It goes anywhere from 30 seconds to 5 minutes, which is a huge plus. If you set it for five minutes, you have that long to reflect. Oftentimes, if I send an ill-advised email, I realize my mistake just a few minutes later. Having the ability to stop its delivery is quite welcome. The lower setting is useful for everyday mistakes, like when you forget to attach the file.

The downside is that the application reduces the immediacy of email. This isn’t a problem in some cases, but it can be in others. I found the app via BerryReview, and Ronen noted that he doesn’t use it because he think he would “get anonyed with the delay that it places on [his] discussion groups.” Unfortunately, there is not yet a feature to make Unsend Email apply to only certain contacts. That sounds like a great update, though. If you could apply the application to only select contacts, and then have a different setting for non-address book emails, the app would be a lot more useful.

If you find yourself sending off emails and regretting them soon after, or if you make mistakes like forgetting to attach the file, you can get Unsend Email at App World for $2.99. All future updates, hopefully including the one I mentioned above, are included for free.

This post originated at BBGeeks.com – home to all things Blackberry!
