Jean-Marie Dore, right, standing with his predecessor, Kabina Komara.<\/a><br \/>Originally uploaded by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/people\/53911892@N00\/\">Pan-African News Wire File Photos<\/a><\/span><\/div>\n<p>Guinea unveils interim government<\/p>\n<p>Guinean authorities have appointed a transitional government to steer the country from military to civilian rule, an official statement has said.<\/p>\n<p>The 34-member line-up was selected by interim Prime Minister Jean Marie Dore, appointed last month by the general in charge of Guinea, Sekouba Konate.<\/p>\n<p>The new caretaker government consists both of civilian and military leaders.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Dore has pledged to hold elections within six months, ending a crisis sparked by a coup in December 2008.<\/p>\n<p>That would lead to the first democratically-elected administration in Guinea, which has been controlled by the military for decades.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Dore was appointed by Gen Konate in January after crisis talks in which the military government agreed on a programme to step down.<\/p>\n<p>He has vowed to reform the armed forces and prioritise the economic revival of Guinea &#8211; the world&#8217;s largest exporter of bauxite.<\/p>\n<p>Reform programme<\/p>\n<p>His new government contains a mixture of opposition politicians, trade unionists and members of the outgoing military government, the BBC&#8217;s West Africa correspondent, Caspar Leighton, reports.<\/p>\n<p>Getting them to work together will be difficult task for Mr Dore, our correspondent adds.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the man technically in charge of the military government, Capt Moussa Dadis Camara, is convalescing in Burkina Faso.<\/p>\n<p>He has been incapacitated since an assassination attempt in December.<\/p>\n<p>The unveiling of the caretaker government coincides with the arrival of a team from the International Criminal Court that is investigating the army&#8217;s killing of more than 150 opposition demonstrators last September.<\/p>\n<p>The ICC team is deciding whether to launch a formal investigation into the killings, rapes and other assaults that took place on 28 September 2009.<\/p>\n<p>An earlier United Nations probe pointed the finger at Capt Camara and other members of the military government.<\/p>\n<p>The question of who is to blame for the deaths has been central to the past few chaotic months of Guinea&#8217;s history, our correspondent says.<\/p>\n<p>The very reason Capt Camara is in exile in Burkina Faso is because he was seriously wounded when a top aide tried to kill him because he feared he would be made to take the blame for what happened in September.<\/p>\n<p>His removal set the stage for more moderate elements of the military to begin handing power to civilians, he adds.<\/p>\n<p>Story from BBC NEWS:<br \/>http:\/\/news.bbc.co.uk\/go\/pr\/fr\/-\/2\/hi\/africa\/8517301.stm<br \/>Published: 2010\/02\/15 23:47:26 GMT<br clear=\"all\" \/><\/p>\n<div class=\"blogger-post-footer\"><img width='1' height='1' src='https:\/\/blogger.googleusercontent.com\/tracker\/16711557-6266132099405644420?l=panafricannews.blogspot.com' alt='' \/><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Guinea opposition leaders have been appointed to positions in government following a massacre last year that killed over 150 people.
