{"id":328947,"date":"2010-02-10T22:07:50","date_gmt":"2010-02-11T03:07:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.grist.org\/article\/new-repower-america-ads-target-conservative-dem-senators-on-clean-energy-jo\/"},"modified":"2010-02-10T22:07:50","modified_gmt":"2010-02-11T03:07:50","slug":"new-repower-america-ads-target-conservative-dem-senators-on-clean-energy-jobs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mereja.media\/index\/328947","title":{"rendered":"New &#8216;Repower America&#8217; ads target conservative Dem Senators on clean energy jobs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t\t\t\tby Brendan DeMelle <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/repoweramerica.org\/\">Repower America<\/a>, a project of Al Gore&rsquo;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.climateprotect.org\/\">Alliance for Climate Protection<\/a>, unveiled a new ad campaign targeting senators in key states to win support for clean energy legislation to create green jobs.&nbsp; The ads feature testimonials from elected leaders, small business owners, union workers and farmers who advocate for clean energy job creation in their respective states. <\/p>\n<p>The new Repower America television spots will start airing in Indiana and Maine later this week on local and network affiliates, and run for three weeks.&nbsp; <\/p>\n<p>The Indiana ad urges Hoosiers to reach out to their Senators, Democrat Evan Bayh and Republican Richard Lugar, to urge their support for clean energy legislation that would &ldquo;create up to 45,000 clean energy jobs for Hoosier workers.&rdquo;&nbsp; <\/p>\n<p>The Maine spot targets Republican Senators Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins, urging them to repower Maine with clean energy, create green jobs, and &ldquo;lead the country&rsquo;s clean energy future.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Next week, Repower America will also air customized ads in Arkansas and Missouri targeting Sens. Blanche Lincoln (D-Ark.) and Claire McCaskill (D-Mo.).<\/p>\n<p>The ads appear to be designed primarily to <a href=\"http:\/\/tpmdc.talkingpointsmemo.com\/2010\/02\/gore-group-targets-bayh-mccaskill-lincoln-to-build-support-for-climate-legislation.php?ref=fpc\">apply pressure on conservative democratic senators<\/a> in these states.&nbsp; They were created by Al Gore&rsquo;s advocacy group the Climate Protection Action Fund.<\/p>\n<p>As Sam Stein at Huffington Post <a href=\"http:\/\/www.huffingtonpost.com\/2010\/02\/10\/gores-group-calls-out-bay_n_456816.html\">points out<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p>The spots are reminiscent of the traditional ads run by Repower America, the initiative that is tucked into Gore&#8217;s Alliance for Climate Protection.
