Roundtown Mercedes Of Maryscot, Sadie to her friends, has won the terrier group at the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show.<\/p>\n<p>Sadie was heavily favored to win, but odds-on favorites have certainly lost before; witness this year&#8217;s working group competition, for example, in which a top-winning golden retriever widely expected to win <a href=\"http:\/\/latimesblogs.latimes.com\/unleashed\/2010\/02\/westminster-kennel-club-dog-show-upset-in-the-sporting-group.html\">wound up losing to a Brittany<\/a> that was hardly a household name.<\/p>\n<p>Sadie also <a href=\"http:\/\/latimesblogs.latimes.com\/unleashed\/2009\/02\/scottish-terrie.html\">won the terrier group at Westminster last year<\/a>; she&#8217;s the second repeat group winner at this year&#8217;s show. (Conrad, a puli, <a href=\"http:\/\/latimesblogs.latimes.com\/unleashed\/2010\/02\/westminster-kennel-club-dog-show-puli-conrad-wins-the-herding-group.html\">won the herding group<\/a> for the second consecutive year.) <\/p>\n<p>Although Sadie won her group last year, in the end she lost the coveted Best in Show title to an underdog in the truest sense of the world, <a href=\"http:\/\/latimesblogs.latimes.com\/unleashed\/2009\/02\/stump-a-ten-yea.html\">a 10-year-old Sussex spaniel named Stump<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>But the feisty terrier (and aren&#8217;t all terriers feisty?) didn&#8217;t take defeat lying down; she went on to win the two <em>other<\/em> biggest shows in the nation, the <a href=\"http:\/\/latimesblogs.latimes.com\/unleashed\/2009\/11\/national-dog-show-2009.html\">National Dog Show<\/a> in Pennsylvania and the <a href=\"http:\/\/latimesblogs.latimes.com\/unleashed\/2009\/12\/sadie-scottish-terrier-wins-akc-eukanuba-dog-show-long-beach.html\">AKC\/Eukanuba National Championship<\/a> in Long Beach.\n<\/p>\n<p>Despite her winning record, her handler Gabriel Rangel kept his thoughts on the work at hand rather than getting his hopes up for a big win. &quot;Expectations? Never expectations,&quot; <a href=\"http:\/\/latimesblogs.latimes.com\/unleashed\/2010\/02\/westminster-kennel-club-dog-show-scottish-terrier-sadie-is-the-oddson-favorite-to-win.html\">Rangel told the Associated Press<\/a>. &quot;If you think that way, you get nervous and in trouble.&quot;\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Sadie beat a male smooth fox terrier named Ch. J&#8217;Cobe Kemosabe Vigilante Justice, a male Norwich terrier named Ch. Skyscot&#8217;s Poker Chip and a male Airedale terrier named Ch. Stirling Cool Hand Luke to win the terrier group.
