{"id":331618,"date":"2010-02-17T08:09:12","date_gmt":"2010-02-17T13:09:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/languagelog.ldc.upenn.edu\/nll\/?p=2123"},"modified":"2010-02-17T08:09:12","modified_gmt":"2010-02-17T13:09:12","slug":"future-perfect-continuous-passive","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mereja.media\/index\/331618","title":{"rendered":"Future perfect continuous passive?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Yesterday&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.qwantz.com\/index.php?comic=1654\">Dinosaur Comics<\/a> explores the far reaches of verbal morphosyntax in English:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/languagelog.ldc.upenn.edu\/myl\/DinoComixVerbForm.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"Click to embiggen\" src=\"http:\/\/languagelog.ldc.upenn.edu\/myl\/DinoComixVerbForm.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"475\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>(As usual, click on the image for a larger version.)<br \/>\n<span id=\"more-2123\"><\/span><br \/>\nThere are some terminological issues, but it would be inappropriate to be critical of someone who uses the term &#8220;passive&#8221; to refer to a genuine instance of the passive voice.<\/p>\n<p>The system is in principle recursive, so that nothing but a bit of effort stands between you and semi-plausible uses of even more elaborate forms, like &#8220;will have been going to have been being done by me&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>A small usage note: final vocative &#8220;bitches&#8221; has become a sort of particle indicating ironic triumph, used even (or especially?) in otherwise PC contexts, e.g. the well-known <a href=\"http:\/\/xkcd.com\/54\/\">xkcd strip<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/languagelog.ldc.upenn.edu\/myl\/xkcdScience.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>And of course the <a href=\"http:\/\/store.xkcd.com\/xkcd\/#Science\">t-shirt<\/a> as well:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/imgs.xkcd.com\/store\/imgs\/science_square_4.jpg\"\/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Yesterday&#8217;s Dinosaur Comics explores the far reaches of verbal morphosyntax in English: (As usual, click on the image for a larger version.)
