When consumers set up an initial appointment, they are told they have “the look” for modeling but need a set of “test photos” for about $99, then a larger portfolio of headshots for as much as $500, the suit claims.<\/p>\n
The firm claims to use the portfolios to solicit jobs, including Sears and The Gap, but when consumers ask which companies were contacted, the firm allegedly fails to produce any names. Further, once consumers have paid for portfolios, the firm often fails to respond to calls and inquiries, the suit claims.<\/p>\n
The second suit alleges Latte Model and Talent solicits people for talent agent services and sells travel packages to the International Modeling and Talent Association convention. Consumers typically pay $5,295 per package and are promised more than 45 hours of training, a pro photo session and personal career counseling.<\/p>\n
But the suit alleges the firm fails to provide services promised and fails to refund costs if trips are canceled.<\/p>\n
The suits ask that the firms be prohibited from engaging in modeling and talent services in Illinois, pay restitution for consumers, a civil penalty of $50,000 and additional penalties of $50,000 for each violation, plus costs of prosecution.<\/p>\n
Both agencies are based in Chicago and the state has received a total of 13 complaints against them, the release said.<\/p>\n
