{"id":333659,"date":"2010-02-18T02:37:10","date_gmt":"2010-02-18T07:37:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/chicagopressrelease.com\/press-releases\/katherine-reutter-briefly-holds-record-on-short-track-oval"},"modified":"2010-02-18T02:37:10","modified_gmt":"2010-02-18T07:37:10","slug":"katherine-reutter-briefly-holds-record-on-short-track-oval","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mereja.media\/index\/333659","title":{"rendered":"Katherine Reutter briefly holds record on short-track oval"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><p>\n\tVANCOUVER, British Columbia \u2013 Champaign native Katherine Reutter held the world record in the short-track 500 meters Wednesday night.<\/p>\n<p>\n\tBriefly.<\/p>\n<p>\n\tReutter held the world record for less than five minutes after winning her quarterfinal heat in a record 43.834 seconds.<\/p>\n<p>\n\tBut the Centennial grad failed to advance out of the semis to set up a showdown with new record-holder Wang Meng of China, who blazed to the gold medal in 43.048. Meng&#8217;s semifinal time was 42.985.<\/p>\n<p>\n\t&#8220;Going into the first race I said to myself &#8216;I want to set an Olympic record,&#8217; and I did,&#8221; Reutter said. <span id=\"more-19856\"><\/span>&#8220;From now on I can say I was an Olympic record-holder.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>\n\tIn the final, Wang crossed the finish line well ahead, sticking both her arms out.
