\nHonda\u2019s CR-X was an epic car, especially in Si trim. Unfortunately for Honda, it was followed by the dismal DelSol, proof that even Honda can build a bad car now and then. Thus, when Honda first announced the new CR-Z, spiritual successor to the CR-X, it caught my attention.<\/p>\n
<\/span>Then my ADD kicked in, as soon as I learned that the CR-Z was first a hybrid, secondarily a \u201csporty\u201d car. I\u2019m all for saving the planet, but 122 horsepower in a car with sporting intentions? A car that weighs in at around 2,800 pounds? Sure, Honda claims that go-cart-like handling will make it an enthusiast\u2019s car, but I\u2019d buy a first or second generation Miata if I wanted something underpowered with faultless balance.<\/p>\n All is not lost, however, as internet rumors of a CR-Z Type R abound. How about 200 horsepower instead of 122? How about lots of supplementary low-end torque from an electric motor? How about a sport tuned suspension, bigger brakes and sport seats? If this mythical beast does exist, expect to see it in Japanese and EU markets first.
