However, an analyst at RBC Capital Markets has come up with a quintessentially British metaphor \u0096 the &#8216;Eddie the Eagle&#8217; recession.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking at a credit briefing this week, <strong>Simon Ballard<\/strong>, senior credit strategist at RBC Capital Markets, said he could see an &#8220;Eddie the Eagle type-recession&#8221; playing out, with a sharp fall, then a gentle rise, before flatlining.<\/p>\n<p>Ballard isn&#8217;t the first to liken the economy to a ski jump, with short term stimulus aiding lift off. The difference with Eddie the Eagle is that there was no lift off.<\/p>\n<p>For the uninitiated, Michael Edwards, better known as Eddie &#8216;The Eagle&#8217; Edwards, is a former GB ski jumper who valiantly tried, and failed, in the 1988 Calgary Winter Olympics, finishing last in the two competitions he entered.<\/p>\n<p>The International Olympic Committee later introduced rules which regulated who could take part in the event, so as not to have &#8216;The Eagle&#8217; bring the sport into disrepute.
