The government officials estimate that they’ll be spending around $188 to avoid one ton of greenhouse gas emissions, which is 10 times more that in EU’s carbon trading scheme.

Norway uses very little coal power, so reducing emission won’t be as easy as taking coal plants offline. Norway, on the other hand, will use tax revenues from carbon to invest in clean projects. The officials also predict that cutting carbon will fuel their clean energy economy, which will compensate for the costs during the first decade.

Via: Treehugger

Eco Factor: Plan to reduce carbon emissions by 30 percent by 2020.
